Yesterday, was Grandparents Day in the Senior School.  What is that, I hear some of you ask.  The third class students invite their Grandparents to a Mass and then back to their classroom for a cup of tea and some cake.  Well that is how it was always described to me.  I must first say this event is run entirely by the Senior School, the Parents Association have nothing to do with it. I went today as a parent (parents are more than welcome to go).

Well thanks to all those who forgot to mention, you will need tissues!  Talk about a tear jerker.  I spent most of my time taking deep breaths and blinking back tears, the Mass was so moving and there were a lot of very special moments.  It was so inclusive, they had Parents Grandparents, Students saying prayers.  One student with his Grandparents brought up the gifts.  Father Joe went around the students asking question about their Grandparents and what they do for them.  The school trad group were there providing the music.  Then near the end that had a slide show of the kids with their Grandparents and the students sang a very apt song.  You know how they say a picture is worth a thousand words, well these pictures definitely were. They finished with the Banner song, that was it my composure went right out the window.

After the Mass everyone goes back to the school and then they split up into the relevant class.  The kids all bring in a baked good for this event and wow what a feast!  The effort people put in, is incredible. I took some photos so you will see the effort people went to.  Amazing!

Not only that, the students had projects about their Grandparents all up on the walls.  When we got to the classes the kids all grouped together and started their mission of taste testing the items they had put their eyes on before the mass.  There was a lot of humming, appreciative nods from the kids as they worked through the gorgeous baked delights in front of them. The cakes were very much appreciated.  Seriously there are some amazing bakers out there!

While the kids were eating I got to speak to a few of the Grandparents and they were really delighted that this event was run for them.  The genuine appreciation from them was overwhelming.   The Grandparents couldn’t say enough about how much they enjoyed themselves and were touched that such a fuss was being made of them.

It really is a very special event and the school and staff did an amazing job. The amount of effort and thought that was put into the event was apparent from the start.  It was fantastic.  To the staff and the third class parents that sent in baked goods and helped with the projects.  Thank you all, because of all your efforts  you made a lot of Grandparents feel very special, which was so lovely to see.
